‘Teacher’ and ‘Student’, 2001, 38X86cm, watercolour and gold leaf on paper.
Teacher.
This pair was commissioned by the County Wexford Education Centre in Enniscorthy.
The site was chosen and these then made to suit the space which gets strong side sunlight; the “ogham stone” shape is gilded not only on the inner flat base but also inside the fold to make the gold glow from within.
The ogham reads from the base, the texts (to the best of my recollection) on both ‘Teacher’ and ’Student’ chat about how they are each just a part of one another and each enhances the other.
Student.
